Deanna Gilmore has worked in education for more than 40 years.

She taught Iñupiat and Yupik children in remote Alaskan villages, and worked as an elementary school teacher and principal in Montana. At the age of 60, Deanna earned her Ph.D. in Literacy from Washington State University, and went on to become an Assistant Professor there. She then taught preservice teachers at the University of Idaho.

In 2011, Deanna received the University of Idaho Alumni Award for Excellence. She has dedicated her life to the academic development of young minds, and draws from many years of rich experiences in “There’s a Pig on the Playground.”

“There’s a Pig on the Playground: Memorable Stories from the Schoolyard” is a memoir of Deanna’s life, as well as a collection of stories from teachers and so many others involved in the important job of “schooling our children.”

This book is meant to honor and lighten the days of all those involved in education. “There’s a Pig on the Playground” is Deanna’s first book. She lives in Arizona with her husband.
